Thanks to all the students and families that attended!  We had 16 students from our room.  Jill, our instructional coach said parents also attending the math meeting. A big THANK YOU to those of you who attended the Math Chat on Muffin Morning.  While the end survey showed that most of you were excited about the way your child is learning math, several of you wanted to know more. If you have specific topics or questions you would like me to address in future gatherings (or simply through email/phone calls, please contact me at jill.petersen @alschools.org or leave me a message at 507-373-5117.  I am excited to be working with parents who see the value in being lifelong learners.

4th Grade News

 Math
The students have been working on multi-digit addition and subtraction.  They have also been working on using reasoning skills to know which operation to use when solving word problems and working on being able to tell if their answer is reasonable by using rounding and estimating.  They completed the assessment on these skills and will begin working on multiplication skills next week.

Reading

This past week the fourth graders have been practicing and performing readers theater scripts to practice fluency.  Next week they will be working on finding the sequence of events in their reading.

Halloween
On Friday, October 30th, the 4th graders will be having a Halloween party at school from 1:50-2:40.  The students will be allowed to wear a costume for the party if they would like to dress up.  We ask that the students bring the costume to schools with them in the morning, but not wear them until it is time for the party. We would like them to plan on putting their costume on over the clothes they wear to school, so we ask that they plan accordingly. We ask that costumes are non-violent (no weapons, blood, etc.).  We also ask that the students not have face paint or colored hair spray for the school party.  We have a limited amount of time to have the students change into costumes, so we would appreciate costumes that the students can change into quickly.

Scholastic Book Orders
Book orders are due November 6th. You can order online or send your order into me. The order code for online is: HKFD9.
