The Latest Updates

Halloween Party:

The party is tomorrow at 1:45. Your student may dress up but in appropriate costumes. No weapons, hair color, or violent costumes.

The party should be exciting! We are having a craft room, an activity room, and a snack room.  Your little goblin might even come home with ghost poop and witch warts.  Eeewww!!!

Stuff a Truck:

We have stuff a truck going on now until Thansgiving.  Your child can bring in any non-perishable food items to donate to the local food shelf. If we reach 75 items we will reach our goal.

We ARE  the WINNERS:

Our class had the highest average for the STROLL FOR THE GOAL!!!  $97.00/per student average.  So.....what does that mean?  We won a pizza party.  We are picking a day (hopefully soon) when we will have pizza delivered right to our room.

Weston was our star of the week last week.  He is a true country boy.  He loves riding horses and being outside.  He has went on many trips with his horses to go horseback riding.  He is proud of his Grandpa's grader that he refinished and brought to the county fair.  You are a star in room 119!

Music Man Square & MacNider Art Museum

Our next field trip is scheduled for Friday, October 25. We will be leaving school in the morning to drive to Mason City, Iowa. When we arrive in Mason City we will visit the Music Man Square, the Surf Ballroom, and the MacNider Art Museum.

The Music Man Square features a 1912 street scape with an ice cream parlor/soda fountain and gift shop, all in set designs from the Warner Brothers motion picture of The Music Man.

Check out Music Man Square

Then we will travel to The Surf Ballroom. The Surf Ball Room is an American icon and a historical landmark. Some of the greatest performers have sang on the stage of the Surf. We will see the green room where many performers prepared to give their
performance. (They have all signed the walls within the green room when they performed there.)

Check out the Surf Ballroom

Our last stop will be the MacNider Art museum where we will become acquainted with the museum’s permanent collection of American art and Bil Baird’s puppets. Brief visits to special exhibitions will be included.

Star of the Week

Henrick was our star of the week last week. We learned he has traveled many places and that he really likes cats!  I believe he said he has 7 of them that live out on their acreage.  Henrick loves to read!  I can catch him at anytime reading a Percy Jackson. Thanks for being a shining star in room 119 Henrick!

Twin Cities Marathon

Mrs. Kenis and I had to have lots of Stamina on Sunday.  We ran in the Twin Cities marathon.  What is something you inspire to do?

A few weeks ago I went around and conferred with all of you about your reading goals. We set goals together for you to achieve.   Running a marathon has been one of my goals.  How did I accomplish it?  I practiced, I was dedicated, and I was determined.  I am asking the same from you.....  How are you going to accomplish your reading goals?  Are you practicing? Are you motivated to become even better readers?  Am I there to continue to push you to do your best?

Keep striving to be the best readers you can be. Let's reach your goals together this year and celebrate the strides that we make!

Nightly Reading Logs

In your child's binder is a nightly reading log.  Please make sure students are filling these out each night when they read.  Parents are to sign them on Thursday night and they are turned in on Friday.

When student's ask if they can skip their nightly reading.......I talk about all the benefits of reading and how important it is at their age.

Please let me know if your child is struggling to find a book that is a good fit book.  If they read one page and they are unable to pronounce five words, then the book is not a good fit book for them.  My number one goal is finding a book they love.  Happy Reading!

The Big Island Rendezvous and Festival

It was very wet today at the rendezvous. We started off the day by visiting a British solider in his military camp.  We then went  to the tomahawk throw and all students were able to try throwing the tomahawks.

From there we learned how the teddy bear is named after Teddy Roosevelt.

After our lunch we headed to the french fur trade where we were able to see the items that the traders had brought to trade.  Many of us wanted to buy things.

Our afternoon consisted of learning how to trap animals, tanning hides, and we visited a wood maker.  A the very last stop we were able to use fabric paint and quills with real ink.  Hopefully we didn't get ink on our clothes!   Even thou it was raining we still had a great day.
