MCAs-Slight Change
in Dates
In the March
newsletter, I had included the dates the students would be taking The Minnesota
Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs). There
has been a slight change in the dates. Our
class is scheduled to take the reading assessment on April 24 and 25. The math
assessment will be taken on May 1 and 2.
The tests will be given in the morning on those dates. Please try to
avoid scheduling appointments for your child on those days so they can be at
school for the tests.
Math
The
students have been working on:
§ Fractions
§ Solving word
problems
§ Changing fractions
to decimals and percents
§ Area
Over
the next couple of weeks, we will be working on:
§ Translation,
rotation, and reflection of shapes
§ Reviewing fourth
grade math skills to prepare for MCAs
Reading
This
week the students have been working on identifying the author’s purpose. The students have been focusing on the main
purposes for writing or reading which are to persuade, to inform, or to
entertain. Next week we will be working on identifying
fact and opinion in information we read.
