Reading at Home

January 2011 Home and School Connection

Love to Read!!

1. Create a reading friendly home.
Keep something to read in every room. You might put a basket of your childs favorite books in the living room, or bedroom.

2. Be a reading family.
Regular reading at home will help your child read school materials more easily. Set aside a time each day to read to your child and for him/ her to read on their own.

3. Match books to your child.
Familiar topics and likable characters can motivate your child to read. Ask a librarian or bookseller for suggestions.

Holiday Break Reading Race!

We have seen some wonderful progress in our students since the beginning of the year.  We have decided to do a holiday break Reading Race! Our goal is to have every student reading at home everyday so they will not regress all the progress we have made.  We are sending home a chart for your student to fill out after they have read.  They will be racing with their other Title 1 classmates to see who read the most minutes over the holiday break.  The winner will receive a prize! We have sent home book bags to those who indicated to us they needed books to read at home.  If you have any questions please call us at 379-5130 or email me at ajensen@albetlea.k12.mn.us    We hope you and your student will enjoy the holiday break and enormous amounts of reading!
