4th Grade Reading Powers

Starting next week, we will be learning Reading Powers! Reading Powers are comprehension Strategies.

I will be implementing these in our classroom. These strategies provide students with the tools to become more thoughtful and meaningful readers as well as how to become“meta-cognitive” or aware of their thinking while they read.

Authentic children’s literature specifically chosen to help teach and practice each of the five Reading Powers: connect, question, visualize, infer and transform. These books are used for modeling, guiding and supporting students, enabling them to successfully focus on the strategy and acquire a deeper understanding of their thinking.

It is that time of the year again and I am getting ready to see your smiling faces at Sibley!  Hope your summer was fun, fantastic, and full of experiences to share with me when you come back in the Fall.

 

 

Sailing into Summer

Please join us for an evening of ice cream, summer activities, and free giveaways! There will be many different activities that you can make and take as well as giving away a book a minute  & raffle drawings!

Please bring gently used books to exchange

for other gently used books.

MCA 3rd Grade Math

3rd Grade Students will be taking the Math MCA's on Wednesday, April 11th. 

What to do at home before the test:

š Get a good night sleep

š   Have a healthy breakfast (with protein)

š   Keep on your regular routine

š   Give positive comments

š   Give reassuring comments

What to do the day of the test:

š Read the question first

š Reread the question and all the choices

š Underline/highlight important information

š Cross out the answers that are for sure wrong             

š Go back and find the proof in the reading

š Don’t second guess your first answer without proof

š Check your work so the bubbles match your answer
